District Council

 

District VIII Council Members, 35th Annual Conference, Portland, OR, July 2011

Purpose:
Oversee all District operations and activities. 

Members:
The Council is composed of the district chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, and treasurer, all elected offices with 3 year terms, and of one member from each state and province of the district and from the Uniformed Services Chapter West, and all past chairmen (see historical section), and all committee chairmen.  Council members are proposed by the Chairman and approved by a majority vote of the Council. They are appointed for a three year term of office and are eligible for reappointment (see dates below):

Duties:

  1. Work to achieve the District objectives as set forth in the bylaws.
  2. Make and direct the policies and operation of the District.
  3. Promote membership in the District and attendance at the annual conference.
  4. Communicate and advertise District business and activities to all perinatal health care professionals within the District.
  5. Attend semi-annual Council meetings (may send alternate).

The Council is the governing body of the District and as such provides the leadership, much of the service, necessary enthusiasm, and sustaining loyalty that supports and advances District goals and objectives. They are selected from the membership for these qualities plus past participation and potential benefit to the District. Individuals who have been exceptional in their service and contributions are nominated and approved by the Council for recognition as “Honorary Founders” of the District (see Education Foundation section).
