What is District VIII?
District VIII was organized in 1976 under the Neonatal-Perinatal Section of the AAP. It is a non-profit organization with a primary goal of providing a mechanism for the interaction and education of health care professionals within the district who share a common goal of improving the outcome of pregnancy.

  How Does the Organization Function?
District VIII is governed by an elected Section Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer together with appointed representatives from each of 14 western states and Canadian provinces. Any health care professional may become a member, get involved, and enjoy opportunities for learning, making new friends, and exchanging information.

District VIII Educational Foundation:  The Foundation is an endowment that will generate funds to support the educational activities of the District. The primary goal is helping fund Fellows and other trainee's to attend and present at the Annual Conference.  Donations may be made out to the AAP District VIII Foundation and sent to the Foundation Chair at: AAP District VIII Foundation, 701 W Timberview Ln, Spokane, WA 99224.  A receipt will be provided.  On line donation will be implemented shortly, but till then, checks will need to be mailed. As a 501c3, donations to the Foundation are tax deductable. 

Current donations will be MATCHED by the Council members, up to a matching maximum.  This is a GREAT TIME to donate, as your donation will be doubled!


What can we learn from highly proficient NICUs?   Value Metric is a composite morbidity and resource utilization tool to assist CQI efforts (available for all to use at  Phase 1 results are published (JAMA 2015;169:459-465).  Phase 2 will explore which leadership, cultural, and environmental features are shared by NICUs that have demonstrated improving outcomes related to successful CQI projects.  Participation is easy! – no new data collection.  We use de-identified von.CSV file, years 2000-2014, with an easy IRB waiver.  For more information:
